Scope name: Karascope
Year: 2008
Limited edition: Limited
Signed: Etched
Scope type: Cell(parlor)
Exterior material: Glass
Object cell type: Dry
Objects: Glass
Mirror system: 2 mirror
Symmetry: 12-point
Special features: This kaleidoscope is #1/6 (3 black, 3 white). On the scope exterior, glass is fused into color bars, then cut into thin slices and arranged into the shape of a mandala. This mandala, along with multicolored frit, is fused to a large sheet of black glass. This sheet is then slumped over a multidimensional form, cut and ground, and assembled into a glass sculptural kaleidoscope body. The 12 point, 2 mirror system is 16 inches long and creates nearly absolute perfect symmetry, with a front diopter eyepiece. The object case is interchangeable. A magnetic, bearing mounted system allows easy replacement and expansion with an unlimited number of possibilities. Each object case is filled with carefully selected lampworked glass, dry-filled ampules, fused and cut pieces, and beads, to create intricate, color balanced, and random images. There are no machined parts except for the completely hidden bearing that is used to turn the object case. More information can be found here.
